20151219 compose: could not connect, connection refused, cannot open display

I'm seeing this with the Workstation build, with or without
enforcing=0, and on a new Intel NUC (i915 graphics) and on an old
Macbook Pro with ATI/Radeon graphics.

With or without enforcing=0 I get these, and the apps don't launch:

Dec 20 14:09:59 localhost org.gnome.Terminal[1838]: Unable to init
server: Could not connect: Connection refused
Dec 20 14:09:59 localhost org.gnome.Terminal[1838]: Failed to parse
arguments: Cannot open display:

Dec 20 14:11:16 localhost org.gnome.Nautilus[1838]: Unable to init
server: Could not connect: Connection refused
Dec 20 14:11:16 localhost org.gnome.Nautilus[1838]: (nautilus:2975):
Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

Dec 20 14:12:21 localhost org.gnome.gedit[1838]: Unable to init
server: Could not connect: Connection refused
Dec 20 14:12:21 localhost org.gnome.gedit[1838]: (gedit:2984):
Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

The installer does launch (eventually).

But for these other apps there's no additional information in the
journal why they're failing, but it's all related so it doesn't make
sense to file three separate bugs. The live boot is using X for
everything, not even gdm on wayland still.
