I "yum clean all", switched to using the repository pool, and got the new version of gdm installed. So I am not in a position to replicate it and get an abrt report. There is something wrong with the GDM installation though as although the screen appears any attempt to login just causes the greeter screen to reshow :-( The openmpi packages still do not install but at least the Kent mirror is not reporting that although the package and metadata is in the repository, the post processed, installable RPM does not match the expected one and so installation aborts.
