I have/had the problem with lightdm after recent updates. Something
in lightdm (what you get with xfce) is broken. Until fixed, you can
do the following:
yum install -y lxdm
systemctl --force enable lxdm.service
Reboot and select the xfce desktop.
This does not fix anything but it lets you proceed. I suspect the
following updates:
Oct 07 11:53:06 Updated: lightdm-gobject-1.10.2-1.fc21.x86_64
Oct 07 11:53:06 Updated: p11-kit-0.22.0-1.fc21.x86_64
Oct 07 11:53:06 Installed: lightdm-gtk-common-1.8.5-6.fc21.noarch
Oct 07 11:53:07 Updated: lightdm-gtk-1.8.5-6.fc21.x86_64

That's interesting and may provide a clue to the underlying problem but
before doing that I would prefer to eliminate the graphical interface
and use text to start, I usually make that change although I was trying
to leave this closer to the defaults.
