I decided to bite the bullet and install F18 on my system as the HD was dying. My system shows this from lspci...

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GT215 [GeForce GT 240] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

I was unable to run the install nor find any boot options that would allow me to install. I tried adding rd.driver.blacklist=nouveau vga=795. However, when it came to the first screen which should have asked for the install language all my screen showed was snow.

I was lucky in that I saved my old video card with the bad fan and it stayed cool to allow the install. I relented and installed the nVidia drivers from rpmfusion and put the new card back in since the old one will crash the system.

I really would like to stay with the nouveau drivers....but can't since my card isn't supported even though I did what I thought was due diligence before going out and making the purchase.

I have three systems with Nvidia boards -- 9600GT, GT210, and GT460.
None of these have caused **INSTALLATION** problems recently.
