The error is that the bootloader in this case calls /dev/root, while the older kernel calls root=UUID=11803751-9c77-4e25-96d8-daa772b53e5c I changed the /dev/root in Grub Boot Loader interactively and the new kernel booted. [olivares@E-213-5W ~]$ uname -r 3.6.2-2.fc18.i686 [olivares@E-213-5W ~]$ uname -a Linux E-213-5W 3.6.2-2.fc18.i686 #1 SMP Wed Oct 17 06:36:31 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux Now I have to change the line in grub via grub interactively and see that it fixes it and make a change somewhere so that subsequent kernel upgrades update correctly and not put '/dev/root' in there. ---------------------------------------------------- [root@E-213-5W grub2]# cat grub.cfg # # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE # # It is automatically generated by grub2-mkconfig using templates # from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub # ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/00_header ### if [ -s $prefix/grubenv ];
