Hi Kevin, I'm using 3.6.1-1.fc17.i686 now with the latest NVIDIA driver (304.51) and it works fine.
I think of two things that may have happened:
- when you first got the 3.6 kernel it was a debug kernel and so not compatible with xorg-x11-drv-nvidia
- if you use akmod, when the new kernel first boots you have to wait for the driver module to be built
