Hi Frank. Can you set the keyboard after you login with 'setxkbmap gb' (or whatever is the proper code)? Because IIRC when testing the live-cd I couldn't set it from the Xfce GUI either and had to use setxkbmap. BTW, I think that user-dirs.locale is just for the names of the folders in your home (Desktop, Downloads etc.). But it have some relation as why is it set to US if your system is set to en_IE, right?
