We already have defined alpha criteria for desktops which Mate falls

The news articles on Fedora 18 have mentioned the Mate desktop.
Those (perhaps including Linus) who did not like the jump from Gnome 2.x
to Gnome 3
may be disappointed if Fedora 18's Mate desktop is not quite there.
