Why? If it can't do EXA on old chips and the server has no XAA support any more, it's no use. You're better off with working vesa than broken nv.
Vesa is basically as bad as you can go. So "better off with vesa" ... no.
Your are better off spending a few $ a new gpu.
If you're using a system old enough that the GPU is unsupported any more, odds are good money or viable availability would be an obstacle even if lack of an available place to put what is theoretically available to supplant it isn't.
