right now, both on one thinkpad x40 with intel video and on a test pc with nvidia video card, first login attempt after the computer start fails. in /var/log/messages i've seen this message, when this happens:

Oct  2 15:06:53 localhost gnome-session[1316]: WARNING: Application 'gnome-settings-daemon.desktop' failed to register before timeout

a full tail /var/log/messages | grep WARNING

looks like this:

Oct  2 15:03:06 localhost dbus-daemon[933]: ** (polkitd:940): WARNING **: skipping unknown tag <i> at line 335
Oct  2 15:06:06 localhost dbus-daemon[965]: ** (polkitd:970): WARNING **: skipping unknown tag <i> at line 335
Oct  2 15:06:08 localhost NetworkManager[937]: (NetworkManager:937): GLib-GIO-WARNING **: Missing callback called fullpath = /var/run/ConsoleKit/database
Oct  2 15:06:21 localhost gdm-simple-slave[1038]: WARNING: Child process 1204 was already dead.
Oct  2 15:06:53 localhost gnome-session[1316]: WARNING: Application 'gnome-settings-daemon.desktop' failed to register before timeout
Oct  2 15:06:57 localhost dbus-daemon[965]: (process:1577): GLib-WARNING **: goption.c:2168: ignoring no-arg, optional-arg or filename flags (16) on option of type 1
Oct  2 15:06:58 localhost gnome-session[1316]: WARNING: Client '/org/gnome/SessionManager/Client3' failed to reply before timeout
Oct  2 15:07:12 localhost gdm-simple-slave[1628]: WARNING: Child process 1655 was already dead.

after failing first attempt, the second attempt to log in always works, on both machines.

is this a known bug?
