From what I can tell, the RPM database isn't getting
initialized, but I can't find any reason why that might be. The
same thing happens if I try to generate an epel-5-x86_64 chroot.
similar problems with mock are apparently known:

Just to make sure - do you have enough disk space for
/var/lib/mock/?
