Maybe we could achieve betterness by storing that kind of configuration information somewhere, but it still doesn't solve the dependency problem unless. So honestly I don't have a big problem saying that some assembly is required. On the other hand, mysql-libs is 3.6M (and it's not really possible to trim that down by much unless you split out the translations). The postgres client libs are roughly the same size as sqlite (about 500K).
