Indeed it is, and that's why the cron job shouldn't do anything automatically -
the configuration has to be done first.

However the nice thing about a distributed cron file is that it's easy to use:
just install the package and configure, and the backups are made every day.

Of course the admin still has to verify that the backups really work (can be
restored in case of crash), but that's a wholly another thing.
