It occurred to me that when someone packages the new “uv,”[1][2][3], the
situation will be very similar. It’s an executable written entirely in Rust,
without a strict dependency on a Python interpreter, but it’s distributed
primarily on PyPI. Only, since it’s intended as a drop-in replacement for pip,
I expect that it will be necessary to package its Python metadata so it can
provide python3dist(uv).
