It's not just the runtime dependency.  The "EASY" scripts also do not run out
of the box on Fedora, requiring *far* more extensive patches to fix the
problems than a 3 line wrapper.  And now even the wrapper is gone - all I've
done is patch the 'env python' shebang (which is against Fedora rules), and
replace the EASY scripts with symlinks.  The only purpose of the EASY scripts
is for platforms (like Windows - where the scripts actually work) with no
symlink apparently.
