Instead of my previous quick hack that disabled the SSE routines entirely, I reverted review 308003004 properly. (Rebase hint: Most of the code there is just cut from one file and pasted into the other, so if you get a reject on the removal part, just redo the cut&paste and the _sse.cc file will be up to date as well.
