However, there is still occasional development and there is talk of another beta. I used to occasionally follow development of xu4, but I hadn't paid much attention in some time. After seeing this ticket I happened to check their forum and the first thing there is a discussion about the Hawkwind problem. It seems it's commonly reported, and the solution is always to get the last daily snapshot. Unfortunately those are only for Windows and OSX, but they're just pulls from CVS. My understanding is that you can finish the game with the snapshots, but I haven't tried it.
