According to the SourceURL#GitHub guidelines: "For a number of reasons (immutability, availability, uniqueness), you must use the full commit revision hash when referring to the sources." I think the guidelines are insistent on using the commit hash because tags can be deleted and recreated on a different commit without any record or indication to those downloading it.
