These should address all the issues you noted, John.  The only ones not
explicitly fixed according to your suggestions are the static library
packaging, as it should all be a DSO build (which is now fixed), and the
licensing issue (because I felt it was too large an undertaking to just fix
up).  I have sent a note upstream about sorting out licensing clarity however.
