I don't have huge amounts of time these days to spend on Javs3d, so work is sporadic to say the least. JOGL2 does ship tesselation utils that may provide suitable functionality that could be adapted, but I'm not even looking at that until a regression with offscreen canvases gets fixed. I'm very willing to point people in the right direction if they want to help out, otherwise the status is essentially unchanged for now.
