I chose the package name "the_silver_searcher" as that seems to be what is used in most other package managers. I see that Ubuntu and Debian uses "silversearcher-ag", though, so I could change it to that. The binary conflict is a little trickier, I'll have to come up with a different name. I've noticed that "ack" (a similar program) uses "ack-grep" in some locations. I updated the man page %files in my local spec, but some errors showed up when attempting to rename the package (the Makefile is still installing some things to /usr/share/the_silver_searcher).
