Hello Rich,
thanks for your efforts in packaging gazebo!

I had two problems in building it from the srpm:

* Missing BR for libtar-devel 
* urdfdom-devel does not exists. In fact the only package that exists is
urdfdom-headers-devel. However cmake still complains that it does not found
urdf_parser.h and that the parser won't be built.

Miscellaneous thoughts:
* Why did you disabled the %{?_smp_mflags} flag? It does work in my build.
* I see that gazebo can use bullet and the support seems in good state:
http://gazebosim.org/wiki/Tutorials/1.9/bullet
Maybe you could just support only bullet physics and so get rid of the last
bundled lib?
* Last version is 1.9 :)
