To be honest, the real problem is Qt reinventing gettext in the first place… Most normal software including KDE software installs gettext .mo files to /usr/share/locale/$LANG/LC_MESSAGES/*.mo, but putting .qm files in there is probably not that great an idea anyway. And I see that most Qt-only stuff puts the translations somewhere under %{_datadir}/name. So I guess keep things the way they are.
