The reSIProcate API (and often ABI) changes between releases. Sadly, this is just the nature of developing code for a protocol like SIP. So an application that compiles against 1.X won't always compile against 1.(X+1) without changes. To make this easier, in Debian, we wanted to let people install multiple versions of the libs concurrently.
