If we want to move this forward, we need to fix the bugs that prevent the
package from building in rawhide.

Not really. As long as it does not build in rawhide, you cannot import the
package because you would create a broken upgrade path. Rawhide is where
development happens and I'm afraid if the package already lags behind during
review, this will happen again with every single release. Trust me, this is no
fun for both the maintainer and the users.
