So the "Provides: ruby-qpid" should be accompanied by "Obsoletes" directive. So for F16, it should look like: Provides: ruby-qpid = %{version}-%{release} Obsoletes: ruby-qpid < 0.8-2 Btw since the package needs to go into Rawhide first, it would be nice if you could prepare the .spec file for Rawhide.
