It's a snapshot since you pulled it from the VCS. In the normal case one uses stable release tarballs. Here there is no problem, since one knows what is in, e.g., gcc-4.5.2.tar.gz. You then would get, e.g., gcc-4.5.2-1 as the EVR of the resulting RPM. If you, however, pull out a snapshot - even from a stable branch - it's impossible to know *what* is in the source. The version of the branch *does not* identify the sources.
