Note that (sorted from the most recent to the oldest) bug #656410, bug #607615
and bug #529563 may be worth a look, as they track Fedora packaging for Boost.

FYI, we (Petr Machata and Benjamin Koznik, the official packagers, and I) are
now packaging Boost-1.46 (or, at least, attempting to do so), thanks to a
"cmake-ify" patch, which does the job. I do not see any reason why you could
not re-use that work.

Of course, whether there will be an upgrade of Boost on RHEL/EPEL is another
story...
