Obviously you need some to get extra functionality, but only for the image types you need to process. Perhaps just a note in the description? The problem at the moment with using convert is that you would need a command like: convert <file> pnm:-, but the code expects to append the filename to the end of the command. The more I look at the code, the less I like it, but I suppose it's developing and may be useful.
