the thing is, acceleration is only available for codecs which are legally
encumbered, AIUI: MPEG-2, h264, VC-1. Nothing supported by libva actually does
acceleration of a non-encumbered codec, yet.

So you're always going to hit the patent wall at some point. I'd still like to
have libva in Fedora just to make things more convenient and allow for the
situation where someone does implement support for an unencumbered codec, but
for now it's not the case.
