I don't know if I can maintain it (yet) but I'm doing this for research first. I'll try to make a clean spec with the subpackage approach and present people with it. Then we'll see if it's worthy to maintain using one of the methods :) I think that with these "big packages", it will be good to have one or more co-maintainers too, even not using the subpackages approach.
