I thought XG was related to the newer and improved GM standard (which the XS should support somehow, as far as I remember) The Motif series are hardware synth/workstations, and the versions with physical keys also got an included sampler, so it's not a pure "sound card", in that regards. Motif ES came after the old Motif, and the Motif XS came after Motif ES again.
