One of our engineers posted a question on an internal mailing list
asking why he was unable to find this release; I can't find it on any of
the mirrors, is this an oversight or an intentional drop of this
architecture?

You can't find it because it doesn't exist. From what I understand there is no one working on it right now, but volunteers to help lead the effort in the secondary architecture group are always welcome.

The information on the wiki about ia64 may be out of date: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Architectures/IA64 but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong :)
