Just a tip for your future use -- now on to your question. If your Ethernet router offers DHCP services, configuration is just a few steps. (If you were able to install Windows XP without providing any extra information, that is probably the case.) Select "System -> Administration -> Network" from the Fedora Core 5 system's main menu, and provide the root password at the prompt. Then: 1. Select your Ethernet card in the dialog box. 2. Select "Edit." 3. Select "Activate device when computer starts." 4. Select "Automatically obtain IP address settings with:" and "dhcp." 5. Select "Automatically obatin DNS information from provider." 6. Select "OK." 7. Hit Ctrl+S to save, and then Ctrl+Q to quit. Save the settings if prompted. Now the interface will simply work. If you had to provide configuration information for your Windows XP boxes, like an IP address, network mask, and gateway address, you can do that through the same dialog in the indicated boxes.
