However, most packages use the dist tag so: Version: 1.0 Release: 1%{?dist} Creates different packages on FC5 and FC6: foo-1.0-1.fc5 foo-1.0-1.fc6 The second package's EVR is greater than the first one. If you did not use the %{?dist} tag, you'd have to manage these releases manually to keep the FC5 release < FC6. -Toshio
