  fftw 2.x and fftw 3.x are different and incompatible releases. In the 
particular case of grace it only works with 2.x. I am not sure if the future 
major release (6.0) will work with 3.x but that is not true now.

  Clearly I would not mind to have this change. It makes more sense to me. I 
would like also to see this as policy written by FESCO. But that is just 
me. :-)
