I see our sorest lack right now in the end-user documentation like a Desktop Users Guide, Administrators Guide, etc. These have been started on the wiki, but due to our short-handedness, they're a little threadbare. Also, they probably could use the touch of a talented wordsmith to keep them readable, which cuts down on the editorial resources needed. Are you game? See http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Docs/Drafts for more information. Obviously, you'll want to get some account details set up. The main steps remaining AFAICT are: 1. Get a Fedora Account: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/AccountSystem (Return the CLA, etc. so you can complete the next step) 2. Get a Wiki Account: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/UserPreferences (Someone will add you to the EditGroup once you have a completed CLA from Step #1) Then you'll be ready to do some work on the wiki. We have some drafting guidelines available that will allow us to turn the wiki material into DocBook XML thanks to our awesome intern's work for the Summer of Code. > I use Fedora Core as my everyday desktop. As you get better acquainted with DocBook, you could help make the call for when to transition these docs to CVS. Many of us started with similar (or less) background experience, so you'll find lots of help here or on Freenode IRC at #fedora-docs. Please stop by IRC and introduce yourself when you get a chance. > Even though I'm a brilliant monolinguist, I get excited at > the thought of working on a global multilingual project like > Fedora Core. Our recent internationalization/localization efforts have really broadened my view. If I only knew then what I know now... :-) It's been a great learning experience. Nice to meet you, and please feel free to roll up your sleeves and jump in. Make a difference, don't be shy! -- Paul W.
