And, if trying to set up the environment, it is necessary to set the
appropriate variables, not just view CVSROOT, making the full sequence:

export CVS_RSH=ssh
export CVSROOT=:ext:username@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:/cvs/docs
cvs co -r FC-5-TEST1-TRANS-FREEZE -d release-notes-FC5test1 release-notes

Where 'username' is, of course, replaced appropriately.
