Look over the _current_list_of_bugs_[1] first to be sure your request is not already in progress. If it is not, _enter_a_new_RFE_bug_[2] and it will enter the queue." ...or something to that effect. ([1] & [2] can duplicate the links at the Docs Project page. ) This came up today as I look over fedora-devel-list and see that there is a great deal of confusion starting to arise over the way Arjan is preparing the kernel RPM these days. Bear with me while I describe the problem for those on this list who may not read that one. Case in point, kernel-sourcecode has been dropped in favor of having the user simply download kernel-<version>.src.rpm. He indicates there will be documentation about how to use this for building new kernels from scratch. This process will be very different from the old one, and the FDP should probably get in on (or maybe just above) the ground floor WRT producing it. I tried to put myself in the mindset of someone who wanted to ask for docs, but didn't know where to start. I think many people who might helpfully be entering RFE's for us are not making it down to the bottom of the FDP page at <http://fedora.redhat.com/projects/docs/>, and don't understand what those links are for. In addition, the fact that the entire first section of the FDP page would lead fast readers to believe that no resources exist on that page for them, unless they want to do some writing themselves. A very short statement on what a non-writer can do, at the gateway most users will likely enter, would go a long way; we want to encourage even small contributions from people who aren't able to make large ones. This is in Karsten's FDP docs process thread because it also is oriented toward people who want to be FDP contributors, as opposed to Joe User (or even Sally Developer), who may simply want to ask that we consider writing a certain doc. This is not to say that case needs to be in the FDP process guide, but certainly we should be considering it to make the Fedora home page more usable. Unless anyone has objections, I'll Bugzilla this as a RFE of the <http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/> page... and I'll likely RFE the kernel situation too. -- Paul W. Frields, RHCE
