Thanks, Rich.  That did the trick.  I had followed step #6 in the
documentation URL too literally, this is what I had before:

cn=replication manager,ou=people,dc=example,dc=com

Thanks for helping me sort it out!  I'm still getting the hang of LDAP
concepts and formats.
