What version of DS? What platform?Are you sure you are searching your configuration directory server? Do you have more than one directory server?
Do you have anything under o=NetscapeRoot? /usr/bin/ldapsearch -x -b o=netscaperoot -D "cn=directory manager" -w xxxx "objectclass=*" What's in /etc/dirsrv/admin-serv/adm.conf?
