For fear of asking the complete obvious, have you checked your local
firewall?
The default for Fedora is to block everything (assuming it's enabled).

No, neither the browser on the server nor a browser on the lan can
connect. I can ping the ipaddress of the FDS server. So, I tried the
ipaddress:43766 and browser reports "unable to connect . . . "
