Good question. In fact views currently only return entries within the same db instance. The reason for that is the requirement for views to support physical entries in the view hierarchy - in order to do that views uses the parentid attribute single out the set of entries that don't need to obey view filters. parentid contained the value of the entryid attribute in the parent, and entryid is unique only within a single database instance.
