We had the same issue here were our DNS kept on dropping the entry (microsoft sucks)for some obscure reason. Check that your DNS is working properly otherwise odd things happen, or in your case don't happen.
I guess is not a problem with the DNS, since tcpdump clearly shows my Mac asking DNS queries and the responses coming back.
