I noticed interesting thing on both 2.6.26 and 2.6.25 though. If I boot using "nosmp" option, bootup freezes at "Starting udev". "acpi=off nosmp" works though, as works the default option. This is a a single CPU system.

Seems pretty strange. I wonder if this intentional? There doesn't seem to be any bug filed on this, the closest (inverse to this) was: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=405361
