Tank you for your response, but you explaination seem not to be the
whole true.

It will be nice, if you can explain me why the compiler output was
redirected to /dev/null
in the following example:

if /bin/sh ../libtool --tag=CC --mode=compile gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I.
- -I. -I.. -I.. -O2 -g -pipe -Wall -Wp,-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2
- -fexceptions -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -m64
- -mtune=generic -fPIC -finline-functions -fsigned-char -Wall
- -Wwrite-strings -Wmissing-prototypes -Wno-format-y2k -MT
libcob_la-numeric.lo -MD -MP -MF ".deps/libcob_la-numeric.Tpo" -c -o
libcob_la-numeric.lo `test -f 'numeric.c' || echo './'`numeric.c; \
        then mv -f ".deps/libcob_la-numeric.Tpo"
".deps/libcob_la-numeric.Plo"; else rm -f
".deps/libcob_la-numeric.Tpo"; exit 1; fi
 gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I.. -I.. -O2 -g -pipe -Wall
- -Wp,-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -fexceptions -fstack-protector
- --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -m64 -mtune=generic -fPIC -finline-functions
- -fsigned-char -Wall -Wwrite-strings -Wmissing-prototypes
- -Wno-format-y2k -MT libcob_la-strings.lo -MD -MP -MF
.deps/libcob_la-strings.Tpo -c strings.c -o libcob_la-strings.o
> /dev/null 2>&1
 gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I.. -I.. -O2 -g -pipe -Wall
- -Wp,-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -fexceptions -fstack-protector
- --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -m64 -mtune=generic -fPIC -finline-functions
- -fsigned-char -Wall -Wwrite-strings -Wmissing-prototypes
- -Wno-format-y2k -MT libcob_la-common.lo -MD -MP -MF
.deps/libcob_la-common.Tpo -c common.c -o libcob_la-common.o>/dev/null
2>&1
