No problem. Are you already sponsored? If not you'll have first to be
sponsored. There is an interesting proposal which would suit your case 
in case you are not sponsored, which is explicitly targeted at having
people learn by being co-maintainer:

But before this gets approved, you have to follow
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/PackageMaintainers/Join
if you are not already sponsored. 

If you are already sponsored, just apply in the packagedatabase:
