Just as an FYI for Andrew, my desktup using an integrated snd-intel8x0
card does not need s-c-s and it gets configured very nicely in F9.

Will it go loud?

Yes it defaults at 70% volume in pav and at that level is about equal volume to my audigy 1 which defaults to 100% (both in the same machine). The intel chip has higher pitch though with the steady state sine input from the sound preferences but it is plenty loud. Its a Dell precision 340 tower with intel 82801ba-ich2 audio.

Actually, its not really that nice now.. the higher pitch is actually a playback speed difference, making other audio play very poorly. I'll have to look into that more, it was playing fine in rawhide until I reinstalled from beta today.

Regular mp3s and wavs get played about 10-15% faster than they should on the intel card, but sound fine when I move the stream (via pav) to the audigy card. Moving back and forth changes playback speed noticably while the same app does the streaming.
