Here's the output before Rhythmbox:

The problem is that gnome-settings-daemon gets started and this one is
initializing the default gnome desktop environment utilities. It is not
possible to tell it not to reset the background. There is a key in gconf
for this, but it is not used at all anymore. You could try to get this
solved upstream, but I doubt that this will change.
