Same thing happens on ubuntu gutsy: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/151604 Another regression I noticed wrt metacity resizing on Fedora 8 is if you toggle gnome-terminal fullscreen (AltF11) and back, then subsequently when trying to maximise the window, a fullscreen is done instead.
